Sometimes the birthing experience can involve trauma – for the mother, father and the baby. Kathleen writes:
“Some of my clients have previously experienced trauma in one way or another during pregnancy, childbirth or in the time after the baby is born. They come to me because they want to create a different experience with their next pregnancy.
I teach them how to work with the energies surrounding the previous birth and how to then release the trauma. They are then able to consciously create a new birthing experience.
Each birthing story or experience is unique. As their Adoula, I assist my clients as they consciously create their birth experience and as they learn how to connect with the sacred breath and energies of birthing.”

Client Experiences with Birth Trauma
My wife and I had a traumatic experience when our son was born. His birth was rushed, incredibly painful and very traumatic with several complications. Several years later when we discussed the possibility of having another child, the memory of our son’s traumatic birth was still fresh in our minds and the lingering paranoia and overwhelming fear remained. My wife sought out Ms. Haws’ help and she was an integral part of our choice to have another child as well as our trauma release process.
We worked with Kathleen for several months prior to the delivery of our third child in order to release past trauma and prepare for our next child. We spent several hours a week using the tools Kathleen taught us to connect with our child. We gained a clear understanding of who she was and a definite connection was created in the months before her birth. The birth of our daughter was trauma free, pain free and medication free.
As a mental health counselor who assists clients in resolving past traumatic events, I rely heavily on what I have learned form Kathleen regarding the importance placed on breathing, appreciating the beauty of self, and releasing past trauma in order to recreate personal stories.

My husband and I were able to meet with Kathleen on a regular basis beginning in the second trimester of pregnancy. During our second session with her, we discussed our story regarding our first pregnancy and a traumatic, unplanned c-section at delivery. I would become very emotional every time the story was told, and I did not fully respect the impact of our birth experience, nor did I fully grasp the deep feelings I had been harboring. This became evident and was manifested as a deep-rooted fear of repeating this experience with our second child. Kathleen was able to assist in the releasing of these fears and trauma through breathing techniques. While breathing, we were able to consciously make new choices which allowed our second birth to be vastly different in comparison to our first.
As a mental health professional, the degree of success by working with Kathleen has been immeasurable. Studies show the success rate regarding mindfulness, meditation and breathing which are incorporated through the interventions Kathleen uses in her process and connection work. For mothers suffering from birth trauma, the use of Kathleen’s knowledge and expertise would allow the mother to release the trauma allowing her to begin her journey into motherhood with more ease and clarity. Kathleen’s work also benefits fathers who may equally be impacted by birthing trauma as a result of their experience.
